Mission Statement

The College of New Jersey, a nationally recognized public institution founded in 1855 as the New Jersey State Normal School, is a primarily undergraduate and residential college, with targeted graduate programs. Accreditation

The College of New Jersey is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), www.msche.org. The MSCHE is an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The following undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited/approved by specialized programmatic organizations:

  • The College of New Jersey School of Education is a member of good standing of the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP), a national organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • The programs in counselor education are accredited by CACREP, cacrep.org.
  • The College of New Jersey is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
  • The College of New Jersey is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.
  • Programs in the School of Business are accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
  • The BS programs in biomedical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and engineering science are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.
  • The BS program in computer science is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

  • The BS program in Chemistry is approved by the American Chemical Society.
  • The Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree programs in public health are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), https://ceph.org.

Credit

The unit of credit at the undergraduate career level is the course unit (One Course Unit = Four Semester Hours). Prior to Fall 2004 the unit of credit was the semester hour. At the graduate career level the unit of credit is the semester hour.

The information on this document is considered personally identifiable information from the academic records of a student. This disclosure is made upon the condition that you will not disclose the information to any other party (except your officers, employees, and agents pursuant to the purpose for which the disclosure is made) without obtaining prior written consent of the student. Transcripts that have been issued directly to students will be marked “Issued to Student”. This transcript is a record of the student’s academic performance and standing only. The transcript is official with the seal of the College and the signature of the College’s Executive Director of Records and Registration.

*The use of the Ungraded Option was expanded during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Course Numbering System

The three-digit numbers which follow the alphabetical abbreviations are to be generally interpreted as follows: 000=no credit toward graduation; 100=open to all students; 200=open to students who have prerequisites; 300=professional or advanced course, normally not open to freshmen; 400=professional or advanced course, normally not open to sophomores; 500=graduate course (seniors with permission); 600=graduate only.
