The Correct Response is: NO

If Professor Y is the student’s advisor or the chair of the department in which the student is majoring, he can have this information (although he should already have access to it himself through our student system and should be referred to Records and Registration to determine security access). However, other faculty members would still need a legitimate educational interest “need to know” in order to access a student’s information. For example, if Professor Y wants to know the student’s GPA because he is trying to decide on how he should grade the student, this is not a legitimate educational interest.
